
CrossFit Games 2021 will be taking place in a few weeks and many CrossFit Games participants are very excited. Along with the usual CrossFit Games competitions like those for men, there will also be events for women. Women are competing
The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. Koski was the overall champion after she maintained her lead throughout. Tall and Eramooo O’Connell came second and three respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.
The women's contest is filled with high-level athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler, a rising star who competed for the team division in 2018, finished third in America and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. Along with dumbbell overhead squats and double-unders, it was included in the Games' summer Olympic programme. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 for the men and took home his third Games victory. There were several tie in the contest but Toomey Orr's dominance was too strong to stop him winning.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Competitors are tested on their grip strength and coordination in the Pegboard contest. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.
System of cutting
CrossFit Games will use a cutting system again for individual competitions. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. The competition consists of 15 individual events, so a first cut to 30 athletes is likely after the seventh or eighth event. One question that remains is how CrossFit will adjust the points distribution after cuts. It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.
This year's field consists of 236 athletes, making it the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games. Major cuts are made in the first six events. The field is now reduced to 75. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. From there, the top twenty athletes compete in the six remaining events. Veteran Games participants criticized Castro's system, claiming that the cuts were too drastic.
Reebok's equipment
Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. The Nano X1 is the new shoe. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

Reebok's contract with CrossFit will end at the end of 2020, and the Games will be without a title sponsor. Reebok has sponsored these Games for over a decade. However, it now appears that the company's involvement in the Games is decreasing. The company won't fund the Games' prize purse, but will continue to make all of the athletic apparel and equipment worn by athletes, including the new Reebok gear. The company will no more refer to itself by the name "Reebok Fitness Games", as it does right now.
