Women are competing
This morning, the women's competition began at the 2021 Crossfit Games with the swim event. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. Koski was the overall champion after she maintained her lead throughout. Tall finished second and Eramoo O’Connell third, respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.
The women's contest is filled with high-level athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Andrea Nisler was also a rising star. In 2018, she competed in team division and came in third in the United States. She finished fifteenth in 2020. Aside from these athletes, the Women’s competition will also include a newcomer, Sara Sigmundsdottir, an Icelandan competitor, who won first place at the World Crossfit Games earlier.
Pegboard contest
The Pegboard contest at the Crossfit Games 2021 was a first. It was also added to the Games' Olympic summer program. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 and became the Games' third winner. There were several ties in the contest, but Toomey-Orr's dominance was not enough to keep him out of the win.

Athletes train for the CrossFit Games by focusing on ten general physical fitness skills: cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, and agility. Pegboard tests the grip strength and coordination of competitors. Competitors hold two wooden pegs between each hand and compete to win. After completing the Pegboard, the competition was intense and athletes felt a sense of accomplishment.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. There are 15 events in the competition, so it is possible that 30 athletes will be cut after the eighth or seventh event. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.
The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is now reduced to 75. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.
Reebok's equipment
Reebok announces new CrossFit Games clothing, shoes and other equipment. The Nano X1 are the new shoes. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. DuPont’s Kevlar material is used to make the upper of this shoe, which promotes breathability as well as durability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. Reebok sponsored the Games for more a decade. Now, it is obvious that the company will lessen its involvement. Reebok will no longer sponsor the Games' prize money, but it will continue to manufacture all the athletic apparel and equipment used by athletes, including the Reebok gear. The company will no longer call itself the "Reebok CrossFit Game", as it currently does.
